What is Directional Drilling?

Directional drilling is a trenchless method used to install underground pipes, conduits, and cables along a predetermined path without the need for extensive excavation. How Does Directional Drilling Work?

  1. Planning and Design: Before the drilling process begins, our team conducts a thorough assessment of the project site to determine the optimal path for the underground utility.   3. Steering and Guidance: As the pilot hole is drilled, special drilling fluids are pumped into the hole to stabilize the soil and carry away cuttings. The drill head can be steered and guided in real-time using advanced technology, allowing for precise control of the drilling direction and depth.
  4. Pulling Back: Once the pilot hole is complete, the drill bit is removed, and a larger cutting tool called a reamer is attached to the drill string. The reamer enlarges the pilot hole to the desired diameter while pulling back the utility line, conduit, or pipe behind it.
  5. Installation: Finally, the underground utility is installed within the newly created borehole. The drilling fluid is flushed out, and the hole is backfilled, leaving minimal surface disturbance.
